EN-SUR-02 Geodesist ( Stream 1): As a member of a project team, organize and conduct activities related to the development and operation of geodetic techniques or methods as they relate to Hydrography, Marine Navigation and other geospatial activities undertaken by the department.
EN-SUR-03 Senior Geodesist (Stream 2): Provide scientific knowledge and technical expertise to senior management. Represent the government of Canada in national committees and provide expertise in geodesy related to Maritime Limits and Boundaries.
EN-SUR-02 Geomatics Specialist ( Stream 3): Provide expert advice on the management and processing of hydrographic geomatics data.
EN-SUR-03 Senior Geomatics Specialist ( Stream 4): Support Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) through continued development of the Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure via geo-spatial database management including design and architecture, metadata, data dictionary management and data quality control analysis. Conducts analysis and implementation of new tools, systems and processes in data transformation for the creation and updating of MSP products, as well as provides expert technical advice to MSP partners on data formats, standards, specifications, software and applications.
The Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) is part of the Science sector of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
CHS vision is to be a world leader and leader in hydrography, a proactive and reliable supplier of geospatial hydrographic services, and a strong partner in the development and application of ocean technology. The CHS office in Ottawa has more than fifty employees and works in close collaboration with the 5 other CHS offices: St. John’s (NL), Dartmouth (NS), Mont-Joli (QC), Burlington (ON) and Sidney (BC) as well as with various government departments.

EDUCATION:
Steam 1 and 2
EN-SUR-02 and EN-SUR-03- Geodesist and Senior Geodesist
◌ Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field such as geodesy and geodetic sciences.
Stream 3 and 4
EN-SUR-02 and EN-SUR-03- Geomatics Specialist and Senior Geomatics Specialist
◌Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in geomatics, Geographic Information System (GIS), geography, engineering, earth sciences, physics, geology or some other science relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE:
Stream 1, EN-SUR-02 Geodesist
◌ Approximately 2 years or more of experience in geodetic, cadastral or geophysical data acquisition and/or analysis.
Stream 2, EN-SUR-03 Senior Geodesist
◌ Approximately 5 years or more of experience designing and developing geodetic and/or geophysical solutions and providing advice to senior management.
Stream 3, EN-SUR-02 Geomatics Specialist
◌ Approximately two years or more of experience in the acquisition and / or analysis of geomatics data, database management, dissemination of geomatics data.
Stream 4, EN-SUR-03 Senior Geomatics Specialist
◌ Approximately two years or more of experience in geomatics project management and conception and providing advice to senior management.
Stream 3 and 4, EN-SUR-02 and EN-SUR-03 Geomatics Specialist and Senior Geomatics Specialist
◌ Experience in working with scientific data and data management standards and specialized scientific applications.
◌ Experience in using a GIS systems for data dissemination.
All streams
◌ Experience in providing professional expertise and guidance on technical and/or engineering issues.
◌ Experience in designing and preparing technical guidance documents for clients and users.
ASSET QUALIFICATION:
EDUCATION:
◌ Master’s Degree from a recognized university
EXPERIENCE:
◌ Experience leading or coordinating working groups.
◌ Experience in preparing and managing contracts.
◌ Experience applying least-squares estimation methods to geodetic measurements.
◌ Experience processing precise GNSS data with scientific software.
KNOWLEDGE:
◌ Knowledge of S-111/S-121 standards.
◌ Knowledge of the Oceans Act and the Canada Shipping Act and related regulations, in particular with respect to Maritime Limits and Boundaries (i.e. Law of the Sea, etc.).
