ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma, and graduation with a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in electronics, instrumentation, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, or other specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Normally, an acceptable specialized program involves the completion of two to three years of post-secondary study in this subject.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Recent Experience (minimum 1 year within the last 5 years) working in one or more of the following areas: electrical or electronics engineering, mechanical or mechatronics engineering or software engineering.
Demonstrated experience in the design, building, or assembly of mechanical and electronics equipment (e.g. demonstrated by hands-on skills in electrical and electronics components, metal working, machining, or equivalent)

Knowledge of programming object-oriented languages like Python, Java, C++, etc.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Depth and breadth:
- Work experience*working in one or more of the following areas: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer programming, or robotics
- Experience working as part of a technical or scientific team.
- Experience planning and conducting tests or measurements in austere environments (remote, isolated, lack of on-site support services).
- Experience as the principal point of contact or lead technologist for a facility or complex capability suite.
- Experience working in a military environment.
- Experience in computer programming for scientific or technical applications.
- Experience in data analysis for scientific or technical applications.
- Experience using electronic test and measurement equipment.

* Work experience, defined as having depth and breadth of experience normally associated with full time performance of the duties.

- Knowledge of electronics design.
- Knowledge of mechanical design

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to obtain and retain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence. Must be able to obtain and retain a DND 404 licence.
Must be willing and able to work in a field setting (non-laboratory) including in adverse weather conditions.
Must be willing and able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 kg over rough terrain.
Must be willing and able to travel for government business for periods possibly in excess of one week at a time.
Must be willing and able to work overtime at peak periods and/or short notice

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Must be able to obtain and retain a Secret (Level II) security clearance.
