Duties

The Deputy Director of Fire Prevention and Emergency Measures Unit (CSCF) is part of the Corporate Security Division (CSC) and holds additional responsibilities of the Departmental Fire Protection Coordinator (DFPC) and the Departmental Emergency Evacuation Coordinator (DEEC). Both of these positions are appointed by the Deputy Minister (DM) of Foreign Affairs (USS).

In addition to the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) listed responsibilities of the above positions, the Deputy Director of CSCF is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
1. Liaison between GAC and the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) on matters related to fire protection
2. Liaison between the department Global Affairs Canada GAC and other federal departments as well as Provincial and Municipalities on matters related to fire protection and emergency management
3. Report significant performance and compliance issues to the Deputy Head
4. Ensure Facilities meet or exceed National Fire and Building Code requirements
5. Chair the All-Hazard Response and Recovery Committee (ARRC)
6. Create mitigation procedures against violent trends within the world
7. Maintain and manage the Incident Notification System (INS)
8. Maintain and mange the Building Status and Emergency hotline
9. Participate in the review of all floor plans for noncompliance issues of National Fire and Building Code for different projects (constructions, renovations, retrofits, etc.)
10. Suspicious package and x-ray training

EDUCATION

ED1 - A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training or experience
ED2 - Certification in fire inspections.
ED3 - Certification in Emergency Management

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

• Significant* experience in developing and maintaining emergency management policies and guidelines.
• Significant* experience in developing and delivering training sessions.
• Significant* experience conducting fire and life safety inspections.
• Significant* experience in reviewing and approving blueprints and floor plans, and in noting all National or Provincial Fire and Building Code deficiencies.
• Experience conducting building risk and threat assessments.
• Experience working with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Experience managing staff


* Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience gained by performing a broad range of complex and related activities over a period of approximately three (3) years of work.
