Duties

AS PART OF THE TEAM, YOU WILL:

Prepare written materials supporting Indigenous, government and stakeholder partner outreach, and coordinating Regional Advisory Committees, including industry marine advisory boards.

Support the coordination of international engagement on behalf of Arctic Region, including international meetings, international travel and international events
Monitor and report on business plan commitments and provide input to the annual planning/reporting cycle

Coordinate and prepare responses and activities on behalf of the Arctic Region to the public, stakeholders, industry and government

Plan and coordinate community outreach events and materials

Represent Fisheries and Oceans and/or Coast Guard at internal and external meetings

Serve as a Liaison between Indigenous and Northern organizations, governments and communities.

Engage on issues including Indigenous knowledge, marine safety, fisheries and oceans management, and Ocean Protection Plan initiatives and operations.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard are seeking to enhance the delivery of marine programs and services to better serve Northern communities.

Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard is responsible for policies and programs in support of Canada's economic, ecological and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters; for the conservation and sustainable utilization of Canada's fisheries resources in marine and inland waters; for leading and facilitating federal policies and programs on oceans; and for safe, effective and environmentally sound marine services responsive to the needs of Canadians in a global economy.

Fisheries and Oceans and the Coast Guard Arctic Regions were established in October 2018 with a mandate to work in partnership with Northerners to collaboratively identify programs, service boundaries and priorities in the North; establish governance for the new Arctic Region; increase employment opportunities within DFO and Coast Guard; establish a governance framework for Northern Low Impact Shipping Corridors; and improve Fisheries and Oceans and the Coast Guard operational capacity and marine safety in the Arctic.

Intent of the process

The Intent of this process is to staff various positions in northern locations, including but not limited to: Yellowknife, Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, Inuvik or Hay River. The successful candidate may be able to work from another Northern location, through a remote working agreement.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Canadian Coast Guard in the North or used by other federal organizations that have vacancies to fill in the North
