Duties

The Life Insurance Group is looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Toronto office team in the position of Principal Analyst. The Principal Analyst is involved in the analysis and assessment of the risk profile and risk management practices of federally regulated life insurance and reinsurance financial institutions. The Principal Analyst will participate in assessments/reviews of significant activities and control functions and in ongoing monitoring and analysis of federally regulated financial institutions (FRFIs), with emphasis on capital strength and current and emerging risks. They will interact with Senior Management and other key stakeholders at a FRFI and will work with OSFI’s Risk Support specialists. They will also participate in other projects as required.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
• A degree from a post-secondary institution with specialization in business, commerce, economics, finance, mathematics, actuarial science, accounting or other relevant field OR an acceptable combination of relevant professional industry experience and education.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
• Recent and significant experience in the financial services sector* in one or more of the following key areas: Risk Management, Compliance or Actuarial Oversight; Internal Audit; External Audit (includes experience in assessing risk and control effectiveness); analysis of profitability, control effectiveness and financial results; strategic planning; mergers and acquisitions or consulting in one or more of the above areas.
• Recent experience in the identification, monitoring, management and mitigation of risks.
• Experience with drafting reports and giving presentations.

* Financial services sector experience is defined as experience working in a financial institution, including banks, trust and loan companies and insurance companies, and firms dealing with financial services audits or consulting engagements, as well as government departments that directly deal with the supervision and regulation of these institutions or other related areas.

ASSET EXPERIENCE

• Experience carrying out prudential supervision of financial institutions.
• Recent and significant experience in the identification, monitoring, management and mitigation of risks in life insurance institutions or other financial institutions.
