The Regional Incident Command System (ICS) Support Officer has a role in regional readiness to respond to incidents. He/she contributes to the advancement of knowledge and understanding of ICS by supporting the delivery of ICS training (tracking of trainees), exercises, workshops, working groups, etc. He/she will act as a mentor or instructor who will share his/her knowledge as required, and may be required to become a qualified ICS Canada instructor. He/she will also support the development of incident management tools, such as contributing to the development of contingency plans, methodologies, or compiling lists of qualified personnel to assume roles in an ICS structure in the event of an incident. He/she will also maintain good relations with emergency management partners and participate in interdepartmental initiatives.
When a response occurs, the Regional Incident Command System (ICS) Support Officer serves as an ICS subject matter expert and may be brought in as part of an incident management team. He/she supports the establishment of the regional incident management structure as required to ensure consistent application of ICS in the conduct of regional incident management. He/she facilitates the establishment of the P-planning process and the development of an Incident Action Plan.
The Regional Incident Command System (ICS) Support Officer contributes to the adoption of best practices and continuous improvement in the area of incident management. The ICS support team may gather feedback from responders and analyze it to determine if action is required to address a specific issue. He/she uses his or her knowledge and the expertise of participating partners, advisors and agencies to make recommendations. He/she supports the implementation of these recommendations and ensures follow-up in subsequent incidents.
The purpose of this process is to staff one (1) Incident Command System (ICS) Support Officer position in the Canadian Coast Guard, Central Region, by the fall of 2020. A first extraction of applicants will take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 in order to fill this need. A pool of qualified candidates will be identified through this process to fill future positions that are the same or similar, of different lengths and requiring different security clearances, based on operational requirements.

STUDIES:
• A high school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position to be filled.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in emergency management;
• Experience as a team member that includes multiple different stakeholders;
• Experience in providing advice and recommendations based on analysis;
• Recent* experience with Office Suite software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
*Recent experience refers to experience within the last five years.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Incident Command System (ICS) certificate.
EXPERIENCE :
• Experience in contributing to the development and maintenance of operational plans, policies or procedures;
• Experience in facilitation, coordination and organization;
• Experience as a trainer/instructor;
• Experience in business continuity planning.
