Duties

The successful candidate will have the opportunities to conduct research in flood mapping and assessment of impacts due to flood events. CCMEO is presently developing new national data layers, including a National Flood Hazard Data Layer (NFHDL) of existing mapping, new High Resolution Digital Elevation Layer (HR DEM) and a National Building Layer (NBL). The potential research areas include: (i) extension of the NFHDL and gap filling between study areas, (ii) developing methods to enrich the mapping by developing maps of different recurrence intervals utilizing HRDEM, (iii) establishing new techniques to evaluate flood damage and impacts. The student will have the opportunities to interact with CCMEO staff, researchers and technicians.

The successful candidate should have a good work ethic, a strong sense of responsibilities, ability to work in team environments, and enthusiasm to work in both controlled environments and fields. Preference will be given to a Canadian citizen and a permanent resident of Canada.

Degree equivalency

Experience in hydro network modelling and mapping using DEM derived for LiDAR
Experience in analyzing and understanding geospatial data.
Experience in conducting literature reviews and summarizing information.
Experience in writing research reports and making scientific presentations.
