Work environment

Your work would involve the maintenance of the complete communications system, which can be located on remote sites accessible only by marine vessels or helicopters. The sites and infrastructure we maintain are of critical importance to the safety of life at sea and to the safety and security of the areas they cover. Repair and maintenance to these sites is therefore required in all weather conditions and crew must be willing to work on and occasionally stay at remote sites with very limited access to typical work site services.

Your responsibilities include:
• Working safely at heights up to 300 feet in all weather conditions.
• Extensive field travel within Canada, including remote sites.
• Participating in all required training.
• Using all required Personal Protection Equipment.
• Maintaining current Marine Communications infrastructure.
• Building new infrastructure and communication sites, including towers
• Field testing of anchors, pull testing and elongation testing for construction.
• Frequent computer data entry in the field and at the base.
• Working professionally and interacting with your Foreman, co-workers, other workers and contractors.
• Field Slinging and Rigging: working with Boom and Gin pole systems, mechanical advantage systems, helicopters and ships
• Site grounding and bonding, Cable connection management.
• Performing the complete install and replacement of in house equipment including antennas of all types

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create an anticipatory pool of candidates that will be used to staff upcoming vacancies on an indeterminate, term or acting basis. This pool may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (acting, indeterminate positions etc.), various security clearance levels and/or various language requirements.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Experience* in the maintenance, installation and inspection of guyed or self-supporting communication towers and other antenna supporting structures up to and exceeding 300 feet (in the range of 90 metres) in height

*Experience is considered the depth and breath or performing the functions, generally over a period of 1-2 years

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Current and valid Fall Arrest Certification.

Rope Access Training Certification- SPRAT (Safety of Professional Rope Access Technicians) or IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) Level 1.

Forklift Operator’s Certification.

Experience in field or remote site operations.

Experience in the construction, modification, maintenance, repair, or life cycle management of CCG Aids to Navigation, associated facilities or assets.

Experience in working with helicopters.

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid driver's licence - Class G in Ontario – Driving a light truck or similar automobile is required;

Valid Health Canada Medical;

Perform work on rough terrain at remote sites;

Climb and work on structures (e.g. towers) up to and exceeding 90 metres/300ft in height to perform installation, maintenance, and/or inspection of existing infrastructure.

Travel for extended periods utilizing various modes of transportation including; but, not limited to helicopters, all-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), ships and small boats;

Work overtime as required;

Lift and carry heavy weight up to 50kg on rough terrain.
