The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate position. A pool of qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff similar positions within various units and locations with the Department of National Defence.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Naval Architecture or other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience in providing technical recommendations to managers, supervisors, work groups, committees or production employees.
Experience in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings
Experience writing technical engineering reports.
Experience in conducting structural calculations and/or stability calculations.
Experience in ship repair techniques

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
Other relevant specialized education and training.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:
Maintain a recognized professional designation (i.e. P.Eng., EIT, PMP).

Experience:
Experience conducting shock analysis of structures or equipment employed in the marine environment.
Experience with the application of Materials Engineering practices in the marine environment.
Experience with the design and operation of marine systems such as HVAC, Fire Fighting and Lifting Appliances.
Experience with the hydrodynamics of ships or submarines.
Experience conducting ship structural analysis.
Experience in the use of a departmental business process system, such as Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) or another SAP-based program.
Experience with engineering software, such as: Paramarine, General Hydrostatics, Solidworks, AutoCAD, Microstation, Rhino, Polyworks, etc.
Experience in managing the operations of a multi-disciplined work group (to include engineers, technicians or draftsmen) in the conduct of technical activities.
Experience managing docking evolutions.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

Ability to work in an open office environment and in an industrial environment.
Ability to work on and transfer to/from ships and submarines via small boat or helicopter.
Ability to travel nationally or internationally.
Ability to work in confined spaces, with heights and in high noise areas on board ships or submarines or within an industrial setting
Ability to work overtime, evenings and on weekends at short notice
This position requires leading and managing multi-functional teams in various functions such as system trials, dockings or inclining measurements
