As a Regional Finance Specialist, you will be challenged to provide financial analysis, reporting, advice and assistance to senior executives, management and staff in Alberta region at Western Economic Diversification. Additionally you will also be responsible for monitoring the operation of regional financial systems to ensure accuracy and advises regional managers on the use of these systems for the purposes of budgetary reporting and control.

Intent of the process

The intent is to staff one indeterminate position.

A pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level. This process may be used for various positions and tenures (including but not limited to term and indeterminate appointments, internal assignments, secondments, deployments, acting appointments) as well as various locations, security requirements, language requirements and conditions of employment.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
• A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics AND experience related to positions in the Financial Management Group.
or
• Eligibility for a recognized professional accounting designation. The recognized professional accounting designations are Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified General Accountant (CGA).

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Significant* Experience in assisting in the design and preparation of budgets, conducting financial analysis and policy interpretations, preparing reports and written assessments and recommendations.
• Significant* Experience in working in a multi-system environment: using an enterprise or an organization financial system in combination with one or more other applications, systems or programs to produce financial analysis, reports and/or presentations.
• Significant* Experience working with Excel (including using advanced formulas such as SUMIFS and/or VLOOKUP; tables and formatting; Pivot Tables; integrating Excel with other tools and optimizing Excel; etc.)

**Significant is defined as relevant experience normally acquired through the full time performance of duties for at least two years.

Asset Qualifications:
• Possession of an accounting designation (i.e. CPA, CA, CMA or CGA).
• Experience in maintaining a salary management system.
• Experience in initiatives that require the establishment of collaborative working relationships.
• Experience in providing advice and support to senior management on financial management matters.
• Depth, breadth and scope of experience in any one or combination of the experience requirements.
• Knowledge of Government Expenditure Plan, Main Estimates, Public Accounts and reporting cycle.
