The intent of this process is to staff one (1) permanent position in Edmonton, AB. A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a term and/or permanent basis. The pool could be used to offer acting appointments, assignments, secondments or deployments.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the positions being staffed.
1. Based on their education, training and/or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the IS classification are deemed to meet the minimum education standard whenever a bachelor's degree without specialization is called for in a position classified as IS.
2. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, may serve as an alternative to the minimum education standard.

Ex1 - Experience in the analysis and management of internal and/or external communications issues.
Ex2 - Experience in providing strategic advice on complex issues* to senior management** on policy, program or other stakeholder related initiatives.
Ex3 - Experience in developing briefing material such as briefing notes, presentations, Cabinet documents, reports or any other substantive documentation supporting decision-making.
Ex4 - Experience in handling politically sensitive issues.
Ex5 – Significant**** experience in managing human resources.
Ex6 - Recent*** experience in managing financial resources.
Ex7 - Experience in crisis communications
*Complex issues are issues with at least two (2) of the following characteristics: multidimensional, sensitive, confidential, affecting many partners or stakeholders, precedent setting or having a major impact on the public service, or having a potential for significant media coverage.
**Senior management is defined as Director General or equivalent level or higher.
***Recent is defined as experience gained within the last 5 years.
**** Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with approximately three years of experience
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or other related field.
Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) with the Canadian Public Relations Society.
