Looking for new opportunities as a Mechanical Engineering Technologist? Then look no further! We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist who would like to work in a dynamic environment, supporting our Defence Team and are interested in challenging work experiences.

What you can expect as a typical day as an EG-04 Mechanical Engineering Technologist at the Aerospace and Telecommunications Engineering Support Squadron (ATESS):

• Help ATESS in bringing new ideas to life; from preliminary requirements, through drawings, concept development, prototypes, and final production and manufacturing.
• Get involved with engineers analyzing and solving problems for the RCAF.
• Visualize design—Using CAD tools to; develop, document, and refine ideas.
• Test aircraft.
• Modifying existing technology.
• Directly experience key aspects of Canadian aerospace industry and regulation.

• PHASE 1: Let’s see what you got!
The information you provide will be closely reviewed with a focus on your essential education and asset experience. This will help us determine if you will be further assessed. We will review the applications after the closing date to see if you have what it takes, you should hear from us soon if you are proceeding to phase 2.

• PHASE 2: Show us your stuff!
If you reach this phase, you will be invited to demonstrate your ability to work in the Mechanical Engineering Technologist role. To do so, we may use a variety of different tools such as written tests, request sample work or on-line evaluations. However, not to worry, we will give you a heads up and time to prepare.

• PHASE 3: Meet Us!
If you have what it takes and have been successful in demonstrating your abilities, our management team will be excited to meet you in person or virtually to validate and further understand what we have learned about you. Please be prepared to provide two supervisory references.

• PHASE 4: Congratulations!
You have met all our requirements and an offer could be on the table. We will let you know where you stand and when and if you can expect an offer of employment to be a member of our team.

Intent of the process

The immediate result of this process is to fill one (1) indeterminate vacancy in Trenton, Ontario. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on an indeterminate or term basis, including casual employment and with various security requirements.

- Graduation with a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Mechanical/Structural Engineering Technology.

Degree equivalency

- Experience using CAD software.

Depending on the position being staffed, one or more of the following may apply:

- Experience as an aircraft structure technician or technologist.

- Experience in using the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and/or Outlook.

- Experience in MicroStation / SolidWorks / AutoCAD software.

- Experience in Project Management.

Note: Managers may add to these qualifications as needed for the specific position being staffed.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Willing and able to work overtime.
- Willing and able to travel.
- Willing and able to attend employer directed training.
- Willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Willing and able to lift up to 25kg in accordance with safe lifting practices.

Conditions of employment

Security: Secret (Level II)

Depending on the position being staffed, one or more of the following may apply:

- Willing and able to travel.
- Possession of a valid and unrestricted driver’s license issued by the Province of Ontario for Class “G” vehicles or other provincial or territorial equivalent Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain Departmental Driver’s License (DND 404).
- Willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Willing and able to attend employer directed training as required.
