Duties

• Operates building environmental systems/equipment within office and special purpose facilities (Laboratories, Greenhouses, Husbandry Buildings)
• Performs preventive maintenance such as inspecting, replacing components on schedule, testing and adjusting a variety of complex equipment and systems. Responds to breakdowns, diagnoses and repairs, adjusts and calibrates a variety of complex mechanical equipment and systems.
• Overhauls (dismantles completely) and replaces defective parts, and cleans, reassembles, tests and adjusts a variety of complex mechanical equipment and systems.
• Removes and/or installs major pieces of equipment.
• Prepares reports; accesses and updates computerized preventive maintenance schedules and records; orders parts and materials and estimates costs.

The position is located at 960 Carling Avenue, where Agriculture Agri-Food Canada maintains 427 Hectares of property and 70 research buildings, for which operations and maintenance services are carried out by in-house Building System Technicians. These entities make up the National Historic site of the Central Experimental Farm a full working farm in the middle of the city. This property is home to the Dominion Arboretum, Ornamental Gardens, Ottawa Research and Development Centre as well as the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum.

The site is visited by millions of tourists each year and is used as a learning location for many local students.

As an active Research Centre, it also draws the interest of scientists and students from all over the world for learning and collaborations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Diploma or degree in Building Systems Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution

Degree equivalency

Experience in operations and maintenance of large commercial building central monitoring and control systems, electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, system components and equipment
Experience performing scheduled preventative maintenance and diagnostic tests on commercial electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical building systems and equipment .
Experience in providing in-house maintenance and emergency repairs to commercial building systems and/or equipment.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Gas Fitter (Technician) Certification in the Province of Ontario or Quebec, level 2 or higher
Power (Operating) Engineer Certification in the Province of Ontario or Quebec at the 4th Class level or higher.

Ability and willingness to work overtime.
Physically fit to perform the duties of the position including lifting moderate to heavy weight items, 25kg, (tools, machine parts, valves) and frequent bending.
