Reporting through the Division Major Case Management Operational Support Centre, the Information Systems Applications Specialist (ISAS) provides information management services to facilitate the collection, organization, sharing and analysis of investigative material obtained and generated during major investigations.
Through the implementation of sound business processes, standards, and regular audits using SQL queries and Crystal Reports, the ISAS will ensure that the information stored in the major case database is complete, accurate and consistent.
The ISAS provides significant assistance to investigators first line troubleshooting of IM/IT issues, general and role specific training, and in the compilation of disclosure packages for Crown and Defense Counsel.
This position is also responsible for the direct supervision, training and performance management of subordinate Prosecutorial & Disclosure Coordinators and/or Information Processors.
The Information Systems Application Specialist (ISAS) provides specialized support and training for major investigations as a member of the disclosure team. This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers. You may be exposed to highly sensitive and confidential information, which may be of a graphic nature that may have a strong emotional impact. Graphic material may include, but is not limited to, murder scenes and assault victim(s), autopsy photos, 911 audios and material relating to child exploitation investigations.
There are two units with vacancies at the RCMP “E” Division Headquarters, 14200 Green Timbers Way, in beautiful Surrey, BC. Headquarters is situated near the heart of downtown Surrey, near Skytrain, transit and the Guildford Mall. The facility hosts a cafeteria, Tim Hortons, and a gym. There are many free health and fitness classes as well as sports leagues to participate in, such as Yoga, Zumba, Meditation, Badminton, Soccer, and Tabata to name a few. There are also walking trails right at the entrance to the building.
One of the units with vacancies is the Integrated National Security & Enforcement Team (INSET), which investigates activities that may pose threat to national security. Candidates would have to undergo a top secret security clearance to work in this unit.
The other unit at Headquarters is the Provincial Major Crime Section. Investigations in the Major Crime Unit include homicides, suspicious deaths and missing persons where foul play is suspected, and investigations span across the entire province.
There is also a vacancy on the Vancouver Island region. The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) is comprised of investigators and civilian employees from the RCMP, Victoria City Police and the Saanich Police Department. The unit investigates homicides, suspicious deaths and missing persons where foul play is suspected all over Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, as well as Powell River and surrounding area. Some areas are more remote and require the ISAS to travel with the team to these locations and work onsite with them. This position will appeal to someone with excellent communication skills as well as good technical troubleshooting abilities.
The intent of this process is to establish 4 pools of qualified candidates in each of the stated geographic locations: Surrey, Victoria, Kelowna and Prince George BC. You must therefore clearly identify which location(s) you are applying to. Each pool is intended to be inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM); for various similar positions with various tenures and security profiles.
Once established, each pool will be valid for a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension. The pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.
