Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DND's role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff 1 indeterminate position and 1 term position in Comox, British Columbia.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions, with varying tenures in various locations.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
OCC1: Possession of a valid British Columbia or Inter-Provincial Journeyman’s Certificate in painting

NOTE: The Technician Qualification will be accepted at time of application, however, candidates will be required to obtain their Red Seal Certification prior to appointment.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience working as a painter in maintenance or construction environment.
EX2: Experience in operating and maintaining a variety of hand powered tools.
EX3: Recent and extensive experience in the preparation and application of finishing materials consistent with surrounding finishings.

ABILITIES
A1: Ability to provide Labour and material estimates.
A2: Ability to communicate orally.

PERSONAL SUITABILITY

EXA2: Experience in Window/Glass repairs.
EXA3: Experience in roadway line marking.
EXA4: Experience in Sign Making.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
OR1: Must be capable of heavy lifting.
OR2: Willing and able to work overtime, including working outside normal working hours and standby.
OR3: Willing and able to work at heights.
OR4: Willing and able to travel.
OR5: Willing and able to work outdoors, in confined spaces and in hot or cold environments.
OR6: Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a Departmental driver’s license (DND 404).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
COE1: CAF Technician Qualification will be accepted at time of application, however, candidates will be required to obtain their Red Seal Certification prior to appointment. For information on obtaining your Red Seal please visit the ITA Website for Holders of a Military Trade Certification.
COE2: Must possess and maintain a valid, non-graduated, and unrestricted provincial or territorial Class 5 driver's licence.
COE3: Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a Departmental driver’s license (DND 404).

COE5: Must be willing to wear and/or utilize Personal Protective Equipment in compliance with safety regulations.
COE6: Willing and able to work overtime, including working outside normal working hours and standby.
