Work environment

The Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit is under ALERT’s umbrella and investigates offences related to the exploitation of children over the Internet. This could include but is not limited to: the possession, distribution, importation and manufacturing of any child pornography and any computer-related child sexual abuse materials; luring children over the Internet; and voyeurism involving victims under the age of 18.

Intent of the process

Immediate vacancies exist in the following locations:

• Calgary, Alberta

• Edmonton, Alberta

The intent is to staff five (5) permanent full time CS-02 positions in Calgary, Alberta and Edmonton, Alberta and two (2) permanent full time CS-03 positions in Calgary, Alberta and Edmonton, Alberta.

A qualified pool of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police within Alberta (including similar CS positions, on a term, indeterminate, or acting basis, at full or part time hours).

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

The following education is required for both CS-02 and CS-03 positions:

• Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Remarks:
1. Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.

2. It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.

3. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience for both CS-02 and CS-03 positions:
The following experience is required for both CS-02 and CS-03 positions:

• Experience extracting and conducting analyses of electronic data.

• Experience building, maintaining, repairing and upgrading personal and networked computer hardware.

• Experience troubleshooting and/or problem solving with at least three of the following operating system platforms: Android, iOS, Windows, Linux or Macintosh.

• Experience preparing technical reports.

All of the above experience, plus the following experience is required for CS-03 positions:

• Experience supervising a team of employees.

ABILITY AND SKILLS
The following abilities and skills are required for both CS-02 and CS-03 positions:

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Experience using forensics tools suites.

The following conditions of employment are required for both CS-02 and CS-03 positions:

• RCMP Secret security clearance.

• Successfully undergo pre-placement and periodic RCMP psychological screening requirements for ICE employment.

• Willingness and ability to travel domestically to attend training, or for work, as necessary.

• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, overtime, on evenings and weekends, and/or on a shift schedule.

• Willingness and ability to be exposed to subject matter and/or material of investigations, which may be difficult to deal with.

• Willingness and ability to provide expert testimony in court.

• Participation in the Technological Crime Understudy Program.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
