Under the direction of a CCG Officer, this position carries out maintenance, operational and custodial services for the Watchkeeping Engineer of a Canadian Coast Guard ship, as well as duties in the marine environment as part of the Canadian Coast Guard’s federal mandate. Key duties may include:
• Assisting in operating, maintaining and repairing ship machinery and equipment;
• Participating in fueling, lube oil transfer and waste oil products handling, and the production, transfer, testing and treatment of potable water;
• Conducting rigging in support of engine room lifting activities;
• Participating in damage control, firefighting, environmental response and other drills, exercises and operations.

Operational Certification:
• Valid Marine Basic First Aid or Marine Advanced First Aid.
Any candidate holding First Aid qualifications other than the requested certification (ie. certification which does not include a marine component) may be deemed partially qualified with the expectation that, at minimum, the Marine Basic First Aid training be obtained prior to hire.
• *Marine Emergency Duties Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) – Basic Safety
• *Marine Emergency Duties STCW – Survival Craft **
*Note: if you are in possession of the former MED A1, B1 and B2, these will be accepted as they are considered to be the equivalent of the 2 courses listed above.
**Note: Applicants with expired MEDs are still encouraged to apply. Upon successful completion of the process, applicants with expired MEDs would be placed into a pool of partially qualified candidates. Once MED refreshers are obtained, they would be moved into the pool of fully qualified candidates and be considered for appointment.
Experience:

• Experience working with DFO/CCG departmental Engineering databases.

• Valid Medical (new hires: Transport Canada Marine Medical or Health Canada Periodic 3).
• Valid Canadian Passport.
• Must be willing and able to wear a Respiratory Protection device and meet the standard of the CCG Respiratory Protection Program – RPP.
• Must be willing to wear and maintain a uniform per Canadian Coast Guard standards, inclusive of CSA approved safety footwear, and maintain job related personal safety equipment.
• Must be willing and able to be deployed.
• Must be willing and able to perform Overtime work as required, often on short notice.
• Must be willing and able to work shiftwork.
• Must be willing and able to work aboard a vessel for up to 42 consecutive days.
• Must be willing and able to travel by air, land, and by sea.
