The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DND's role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team.
The intent of this process is to staff 1 term position in Comox, British Columbia. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions, with varying tenures in various locations.

EDUCATION
ED1: Journeyperson Certification in an acceptable Electrical or Mechanical trade OR Technician Qualification Level minimum QL5 or DP2 (Electrical Generating System Trade) in the Canadian Forces.
EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical generating systems ranging from 2kW to 500kW including diesel engines, electrical control boards and ancillary components.
KNOWLEDGE
K1: Knowledge of Auxiliary Power Units (APU) and Uninterruptible Power Supply System (UPS).
K2: Knowledge of worksite safety.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
A1: Ability to read and understand technical documents, specifications and drawings in relation to generators, U.P.S.'s and engine control panels.
A2: Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems using electrical schematics techniques and identify mechanical problems.
A3: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
A4: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
OCA1: Possession of Petroleum Equipment Mechanic (PM3) certification in the
province of British Columbia.
KNOWLEDGE
KA1: Knowledge of arrestor gear systems.
KA2: Knowledge of lockout procedures.
KA3: Advanced industrial controls training.
KA4: Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
OR1: Able to perform strenuous physical labour, and be able to climb ladders, work from roofs, elevated structures and platforms (heights).
OR2: Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces.
OR3: Must be able to lift, carry and move heavy awkward materials and
equipment, to a maximum 25Kg.
OR4: Able to travel to Holberg for extended periods of time.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
COE1: Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence issued by a Province or Territory in Canada.
COE2: Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain the departmental Driver's license (DND 404).
COE3: Must be willing to wear and/or utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) in
compliance with safety regulations or policies.
COE4: Able to work overtime.
COE5: Able to work on standby.
COE6: Ability to work on a fully operational airfield.
