Work environment

The Prosecutorial & Disclosure Coordinator (P&DC) provides specialized support for major investigations as a member of the disclosure team. They work on investigations that target the most serious crimes which are often high profile or high risk, but nevertheless very interesting.
The P&DC will review all operational information associated to an investigation to determine what information is exempt from disclosure, and/or be subject to delayed disclosure, by applying principles, practices, policy and legislation such as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act, the Privacy Act, rules of privilege, RCMP policy and case law.
This position may be subjected to highly sensitive and confidential information and some of it could be of a graphic nature that may have a strong emotional impact. Graphic material may include, but is not limited to, murder scenes and assault victim(s), autopsy photos, 911 audios and material relating to child exploitation investigations.
There are two units with vacancies at the RCMP “E” Division Headquarters, situated near the heart of downtown Surrey, close to transit and skytrain. The facility hosts a cafeteria, Tim Hortons, and a gym. There are many free health and fitness classes as well as sports leagues to participate in, such as Yoga, Zumba, Meditation, Badminton, Soccer, and Tabata to name a few. There are also walking trails right at the entrance to the building.
One of the units with vacancies is the Integrated Homicide Investigative Team (IHIT), which responds the homicides across the lower mainland. The P&DCs that support this unit are often required to assist the ISAS with the start-up of a new investigation. This could happen at the home unit during work hours, or after hours they may be required to travel with the investigative team to a local detachment to keep up with the urgent demands of these high paced investigations. Call outs often happen with very short notice.
The other unit at Headquarters is the Combined Forces Specialized Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC). CFSEU-BC is the largest integrated police program in Canada. Their mandate is to investigate organized crime groups and individuals involved in gang violence.
There are vacancies in two units in Kelowna – one with the Major Crime Unit (MCU), close to downtown and the other with Federal Serious & Organized Crime (FSOC), where the office overlooks the Kelowna Springs Golf Course. Both locations offer staff parking.
Investigations in MCU include homicides, suspicious deaths and missing persons where foul play is suspected. FSOC investigations target high level criminal activity such as drug importation and trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, and stock market fraud. The dark web adds an additional level of complexity to these investigations. Both units cover the Southeast area of the Province.
The current vacancy in Nanaimo is with Island District FSOC and is located right next to the quaint Old Quarter. You will enjoy harbour and mountain views from the office window, as well as an on-site gym. This location also provides staff parking.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff 2 permanent vacancies in Surrey, 1 in Kelowna and 1 in Nanaimo.

There are anticipated temporary vacancies in Surrey and Kelowna locations.

A qualified pool will be established and may be used for future permanent or temporary vacancies (term or Acting).

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.
