Assessment accommodation

► When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) at the end of the job ad for further details.

► Are you an experienced administrative professional, or perhaps newly graduated from an administrative program? Are you seeking an administrative role that will allow you to flex your skills? When you join the Department of National Defence, you will be contributing your skills to help the Canadian Armed Forces accomplish their mission and mandate – defending Canada’s interests and values at home and abroad.

By taking this road, you will explore the many avenues within the administrative services world. It’s not just a desk job! You can expect responsibilities such as:
• managing and distributing information within an office
• handling financial transactions for the office
• coordinating meetings
• sending, receiving or drafting correspondence
• greeting clients
• acting as the point of contact for employees
• organizing events
• coordinating travel arrangements
• coordinating different projects and activities
• researching and analyzing information.

If you are driven in building a career in this field, DND is looking for you! Read below to find out how this process works!

***************************
Phase 1: Getting to know you
***************************
Submit your resume (no cover letter required), and answer some questions on your experience. We are aware that there are many questions to answer, keep in mind that efforts are rewarded. In answering all the questions for which you meet the experience, you will significantly increase your chances for an opportunity and let managers know what you bring to the table.

***************************
Phase 2: Let’s meet
***************************
You are screened in and then randomly selected from the inventory. Managers will review your resume, and if you have demonstrated the level of experience required for their position, you will be contacted for an interview. Congrats if you’ve made it this far! From here on out, you will be advised of your outcome in the process.

***************************
Phase 3: Your results
***************************
If you are selected for the position, you will be contacted to complete the Security screening and any other conditions of employment. Once completed, a letter of offer will be provided.

NOTE: Appointments are made on an on-going basis as requirements arise. Qualified candidates may be placed in a pool, with referral to positions, and offers, occurring for the next several years.

Work environment

CFB Suffield is considered to be a semi-isolated base. We are located approximately 50 kms north west of the City of Medicine Hat in the southeast corner of Alberta. Most of the civilian personnel who work at the base live either in Medicine Hat or in the small town of Redcliff just to the west of the Medicine Hat city limits. This is an important point to note as there is no accommodation on the base and there is no public transportation to the base. Personnel either drive their own vehicle or car pool with others. Commuting assistance is provided for employees who live in Medicine Hat or Redcliff. For other information on the City of Medicine Hat, I suggest you look at their website at www.medicinehat.ca. For information on CFB Suffield, please visit: http://www.army-armee.forces.gc.ca/en/cfb-suffield/index.page

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions (including lower level positions) on a permanent, temporary, or casual basis with various security requirements and language profiles.
