Duties

TC’s National Aircraft Certification Branch in the Civil Aviation Directorate is responsible for ensuring that new and modified aeronautical products comply with established design and safety standards. The branch conducts oversight on the Canadian aviation industry and collaborates with foreign civil aviation authorities to advance aviation safety internationally.

What you will be doing

• Providing guidance and aircraft certification services to the aviation industry;
• Applying engineering expertise to determine that aeronautical products comply with the applicable design and safety standards;
• Collaborating with domestic and foreign stakeholders and civil aviation authorities to build consensus and greater harmonization with regard to the approval of aeronautical products; and
• Conducting oversight activities on Minister’s delegates to ensure compliance with expectations.

Regional Engineers in Aircraft Certification have technical engineering expertise and knowledge as well as sound leadership qualities. They must be skilled communicators capable of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment, exercising judgement, and adapting to the different needs of stakeholders. Regional engineers must be able to negotiate, facilitate change, and respond effectively to stress caused by time pressures. In the course of ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, regional engineers carry significant responsibility and accountability as their decisions have a direct impact on the safety of the travelling public.

Work environment

The key activities of this position are mainly performed in a typical office environment. Work may also be performed in manufacturing, maintenance, testing, and airport facilities. Some travel is required within the region, nationally, or internationally to conduct inspections and witness certification tests both on the ground and during flight.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

OR

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Significant* experience in the design, development, testing, in-service support, or certification of aeronautical products.
• Significant** engineering experience in the design, development, or certification of aircraft avionics systems.
• Significant** engineering experience in the design, development, or certification of aircraft electrical systems and electro-magnetic compatibility.

* Significant is defined as having six (6) or more years of experience whilst progressively acquiring increased responsibilities related to engineering in the aerospace industry.

◦ How does an inventory work?
When you apply to this inventory process, unless otherwise specifically indicated, you are applying to an inventory for future vacancies and not for a specific job. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.

◦ Why was my application automatically rejected when I submitted it?
In order to be placed in the inventory, you must meet the essential qualifications at the time you submit your application. Your application will be kept in the inventory for 180 days. A notice will be posted in the "My Job File" menu of your account 30 days before your application expires. If you do not take any action, your application will be deactivated and it will no longer be considered. In the event that your application expires during the effective period of this inventory, a notice will be posted in your account. ◦ What is the retest period?
The retest period for re-assessment within the context of this inventory is six (6) months from the date of elimination from the process. Candidates who resubmit an application to this inventory process before the retest period has elapsed will not be considered.
