STEP 2 – SCREENING THE APPLICATIONS

Your resume will be reviewed to determine if you have the following experience and education.

Secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives

Significant* experience in providing administrative support to a manager within a work unit (such as: scheduling meetings, managing calendars, organizing hospitality and event plans, processing Human Resource documents, coordinating with Information Technology and/or Security services, and performing other general administrative tasks such as taking minutes, data entry, filing, etc.).

* Significant: at least one year of continuous experience

Experience processing invoices, purchase orders, and assisting with monitoring budgets

Experience using Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint to create and edit various documents

Experience booking travel and preparing expense claims

The following may be beneficial to the position being staffed:

Successful completion of post-secondary studies from a recognized post-secondary institution (E.g. Diploma of College Studies in Office Systems Technology or Diploma of College Studies in Office Administration)

Experience in supporting the preparation, review, and transmittal of correspondence such as briefing notes, correspondence and letters

Ability to communicate in a local Indigenous language

Duties

Do you want to help shape DFO’s presence in the North and help our new Arctic Region grow? Then we have the job for you. As the Administrative Services Officer you may be asked to assist and train Staff on the systems and processes used to support the Regional Director Generals Office. There is also a need to provide advice and guidance to Management and Staff on Departmental standards and procedures associated with the preparation of correspondence, briefing notes and responses to formal requests. You will also be required to monitor and track budget expenditures, initiate financial transactions (e.g. travel; etc.) and process payment for invoices and other financial status reports. Using a government acquisition card, you will be required to purchase goods for the Regional Director Generals Office and also maintain records, information binders and other material for future use.

DFO’s Arctic Region is responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting relationships across various northern communities in the Arctic and identifying opportunities for collaboration and partnerships that support community interests in DFO’s programs and services.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) AS02 Administrative Services Officer position in Rankin Inlet, NU on a temporary basis for approximately two (2) years with the possibility of extension. However, a pool of qualified candidates will be established from this staffing process and may be used to staff similar positions with different tenures within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
