Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community. The Technical Services and Facilities Branch manages CSC's 74 properties. With institutions and properties at varying stages of their lifecycle, the Facilities Branch provides technical services for property and building. It also provides administrative and support services to CSC in several areas.
They manage CSC's:
• electronic security systems
• engineering services
• environmental protection program
• planning
• acquisition
• design
• construction
• facility management
• disposal
• food services
• institutional maintenance
• fleet management for CSC vehicles
• accommodations issues
• fire safety

Intent of the process

Although the immediate intent of this Job Opportunity Advertisement is to staff indeterminately, applicants should be aware that a pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements listed in the Language Requirements section. In addition, this process may be used for various tenures (acting appointments, assignment, deployment, indeterminate, specified period, and secondment), various security requirements and conditions of employment within the Correctional Service of Canada. EDUCATION

ENG: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical, civil, electrical, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

AR-05: Graduation with a degree in architecture from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

EEX1: Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering or architectural environment. Candidate must have been responsible for at least three (3) of the following, with cumulative experience totaling at least three (3) years on a full time basis:
- engineering design calculations
- construction drawings
- writing of technical specifications
- cost estimates
- project management

EEX2: Minimum of three (3) years experience in performing some combination of the following, in support of infrastructure investment or rehabilitation initiatives:
- evaluating engineering or architectural reports
- analyzing results
- provide advice and recommending implementation options

KNOWLEDGE

EK1: Knowledge of current technology, principles, and practices related to mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, or architecture.

ABILITIES

EA1: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
EA2: Ability to communicate effectively orally.

AEX1: Experience in the inspection of mechanical, civil or electrical infrastructure or security systems/components.
AEX2: Experience working with codes, standards and guidelines related to mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, or construction.
AEX3: Experience working with AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio.
AEX4: Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment related to construction, maintenance, or project management of infrastructure.
AEX5: Experience working in correctional infrastructure.
AEX6: Experience working on infrastructure projects in a Federal Government Department.
AEX7: Experience working in project management in the Government of Canada.
AEX8: Experience developing project proposals.
AEX9: Experience with cost management under a regulatory framework (Government or corporate financial policies).
AEX10: Experience in developing senior Departmental or corporate-level policies, standards or guidelines related to engineering or maintenance of mechanical, civil, electrical, or electronic security systems, or architectural systems in buildings.
