The intent of this process is to staff temporary and/or permanent positions in the Aquatic Health Science division or other similar positions in the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Moncton, NB.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Natural, Medical, or Animal Sciences with a specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position such as Biotechnology, Environment, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, or Aquaculture.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in developing, and maintaining electronic databases or spreadsheets
- Experience in leading projects
- Significant* experience working in a laboratory with a Quality management system e.g. ISO17025 or equivalent
- Experience in writing scientific reports (e.g. published scientific papers, diagnostic data reports, scientific/technical procedures etc.)
- Experience in analysis of biological samples using molecular biological assays (i.e.. PCR, qPCR, DNA sequencing)
* Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed activities which are normally acquired over a period of one (1) year or more.
EXPERIENCE (ASSET)
Please note that one or more of these asset experience could be deemed essential depending on the position to be staffed.
- Experience in development and preparation of methodology for analysis of biological samples
- Experience developing or adapting technical applications for sophisticated laboratory equipment such as liquid handling robots, real-time polymerase chain reaction machine
- Experience in managing financial and material resources
- Experience in supervising staff
- Experience in analysis of biological samples using histopathological assays
- Experience in analysis of biological samples using cell culture assays
- Experience in the development of PCR and validation of PCR/qPCR assays
- Experience with treatment and analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data
- Experience with sample preparation (libraries) for Next Generation Sequencing
- Experience with the cell culture of eukaryotic cells
- Experience in the preparation of scientific research proposals
- Experience in the handling of live fish for experimental purposes
- Experience in research on fish physiology
- Experience performing statistical analysis
- Experience in the design of eDNA (environmental DNA) experiments for the detection of aquatic animal species
