Duties

Under the control and supervision of the discipline manager, the main duties of the incumbent are:

• Provide mechanical engineering specialist advisory services to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with the legislative and theoretical framework;
• Design and verify building services plans and specifications (plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, controls and fire protection);
• Supervise construction work and contribute to preparing field reports;
• Perform quality control reviews of projects done by external consultants;
• Solve equipment and mechanical system design problems;
• Keep his/her knowledge and documentation on building mechanical practices and technology up to date.
• Participate in various studies related to the field of building mechanics.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one indeterminate position in Quebec City with our Architectural and Engineering Services (AES) team, a sector of the real property branch at PSPC.

A pool of candidates may be established from this process to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures (determinate, indeterminate), various linguistic requirements and various locations at Public Services and Procurement Canada. Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

* the term “degree” refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities.

PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION

Canadian certification as an engineer.

EXPERIENCE

EXP-1: Significant** experience* in the field of design and in supervision of building mechanical construction work of varying complexity and scope in building mechanical engineering.

EXP-2: Significant** experience* in the field of managing mandates (managing, coordinating and evaluating the work of other professionals) for professional and technical services of varying complexity and scope in building mechanical engineering.

(*) Experience is defined as work-related experience acquired in the identified field following graduation from an undergraduate engineering program in an engineering speciality relevant to the position.

(**) Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would be usually acquired in approximately three (3) years and obtained in the last five (5) years.

Willingness to travel within Canada from time to time.

Hold a valid driver's license in the province of Quebec.
Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec

N.B. Prior to his or her appointment, the successful candidate must be an accredited engineer in the province of Quebec.
