We are recruiting experienced nurses to fill various positions available in remote and/or isolated First Nations communities in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and Quebec.

We are looking to hire the following three positions:
- Community Health Nurse - STREAM ONE
- Nurse In Charge (NIC) - STREAM TWO
- Nurse Practitioner - STREAM THREE

Duties

Community Health Nurses deliver comprehensive and community health nursing services to remote and/or isolated First Nations communities within Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and Quebec. They provide in-depth nursing knowledge, skills, clinical expertise and advanced judgment through consultation, clinical practice, leadership, and facilitate knowledge transfer through health promotion and disease prevention.

Work environment

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) works collaboratively with partners to improve access to high quality services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Our vision is to support and empower Indigenous Peoples to independently deliver services and address the socio-economic conditions in their communities.

The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch supports the delivery of primary care services on-reserve in remote and isolated areas, where there are no provincial services readily available.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION

STREAM 3 - Nurse Practitioner (CHN-04): Graduation with a Master’s degree in Nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution* or graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution* in Nurse Practitioner Program with successful completion of approved training in Primary Care, All Ages specialization or some other specialty relevant to the position.

*Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

STREAM 1 - Community Health Nurse (CHN-03)
Registration as a registered nurse (RN) in the province where the positon is located.

STREAM 2 – Nurse-In-Charge (CHN-04)
Registration as a registered nurse (RN) in the province where the positon is located.

STREAM 3 - Nurse Practitioner (CHN-04)
Registration as a registered nurse (RN) in the Extended Class (Nurse Practitioner) in the province where the positon is located.

EXPERIENCE

ALL STREAMS: Independent clinical experience as a registered nurse (RN) in one or any combination of the following 3 areas:

i.Community Health Nursing
ii.Emergency Care
and/or
iii.Acute Care

Community Health Nurse & Nurse In Charge: Current valid registration as a registered nurse (RN) and a member in good standing in the province where the position is located

Nurse Practitioner: Current valid registration as a registered nurse (RN) in the extended class (NP), and a member in good standing in the province where the position is located
