The employee will work in a laboratory environment. He or she will manage staff and a multidisciplinary team, and will deal with senior management occasionally. He or she will be involved in the management and supervision of an outsourcing contract, and of construction and renovation projects. He or she will work closely with scientists, inspectors and corporate services personnel and will deal with other government departments and agencies (federal, provincial and municipal).
We have an immediate need to staff one (1) position for an indeterminate period for the National Asset Management and Laboratory Operations Review.
A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various tenures (determinate, indeterminate), various linguistic requirements, various security requirements within Health Canada.
Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments, secondments, assignments or deployments.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in mechanical, electrical or construction engineering, or in architecture.
EXPERIENCE
EXP1- Project management experience specializing in the disciplines of building technology (such as engineering, technology or architecture).
EXP2 - Experience in reviewing and providing advice on architectural, mechanical and plumbing drawings.
EXP3 - Experience in designing architectural plans on a computerized system, such as AutoCAD.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
AEXP1- Significant* experience in building operations and maintenance work and preventative maintenance activities on building systems.
AEXP2- Experience managing projects and building operations in laboratory** facilities.
AEXP3- Experience working with multiple building trades.
*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience associated with the performance of a broad range of related activities which were primarily the candidate’s responsibility. It will be assessed on the basis of scope, complexity and the diversity of the work performed as well as the autonomy required of the candidate to perform the activities. This level of experience is normally achieved through the performance of relevant duties for a period of at least two (2) years.
** A laboratory is defined as a facility with a minimum of 3,000m2 and includes containment level 2, wet/dry chemistry, and microbiology.
