Duties

Provide inmates with classroom and/or individual instruction of academic or educational subjects.

Evaluate, monitor and report on student program performance.

Responds to the educational need of inmates, including the special needs of inmates with learning disabilities, and adapts lessons, material and resources to maximize the opportunity for success.

Work environment

Teachers employed by CSC, offer educational upgrading to the incarcerated individuals. Teachers provide educational counselling, guidance and cultivates pro-social values to inmates.

Intent of the process

A qualified pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff positions of various tenures including permanent, temporary, casual.

NOTE: This process may be used to staff similar positions in the Correctional Services of Canada in other locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree in Education from a recognized university.
Possession of a valid teaching certificate from a province or territory of Canada.

Degree equivalency

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET EXPERIENCE

1. Full time teaching/practicum experience* in a classroom setting.
2. Experience in teaching Canadian high school Mathematics curriculum.
3. Experience in teaching Canadian high school Science curriculum.
4. Experience in teaching Canadian high school English-Language Arts curriculum.
5. Experience in teaching Canadian Special Education curriculum.
6. Experience in teaching Canadian Adult Education.
7. Experience in incorporating Indigenous perspective into a curriculum.
8. Experience working in an outreach or alternative education environment.
9. Experience in teaching an Indigenous language.
10. Experience working in a correctional environment.

* Minimum of 10 weeks experience in the past 3 years

Proof of application for an Alberta Teaching Certificate.

Acquisition of an Alberta Education Interim Professional Certificate within three years of signing a letter of offer unless an approved extension is attained.

Must be willing to work with federally incarcerated individuals.
