Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to be used to staff this or similar positions within the Canadian Coast Guard in the Atlantic Region on an indeterminate, specified period (term), acting, deployment, secondment, or assignment basis.

There is an immediate need to staff 3 positions located in St. John’s, NL, 1 position in Dartmouth, 1 position in Saint John, NB and 1 position in Charlottetown, PEI.

Education
A secondary school (high school) diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience in the use and maintenance of portable and stationary power tools associated with the construction industry
Experience working in an operational site where multi-trades are working simultaneously

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Occupational Certification
Valid Fall Protection Certificate
Valid Rope Access Certificate
Valid Marine Radio Operator’s License
Valid Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
Valid Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
Valid Scaffolding Assembly Certificate
Valid First Aid Certificate

Experience:
Experience with the use of helicopters for transportation, construction activities, and logistic support
Experience in the provision of maintenance work and assistance to different trades
Experience in the operation of light motorized equipment such as forklifts, utility tractors/excavators, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), loaders, snow-removal equipment and overhead cranes and other similar material handling equipment involved in maintenance.
Experience in field/remote site operations
Experience in high pressure washing, sandblasting and specialized painting equipment.
Experience in material handling of portable maritime assets
Experience using Maximo

Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment that apply at a work site.
Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used in an industrial operations environment.

Conditions of employment

Valid Provincial Class 5 Driver’s License
Climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m
Travel for extended periods of time to remote sites via; trucks, boats and aircraft, snowmobile and UTVs
Work overtime as required, including weekends
Travel on short notice
Access remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extreme of environmental conditions
Lift heavy loads up to 23 kgs
