Duties

The interior designers in the federal government participate to providing work environments for thousands of workers.
Their role is to ensure the cohesion between the specific functional needs of each client and their work environment.
The designers participate in the design of spaces where federal public servants operate and can, themselves, provide the best services to Canadians. They are called upon to act as experts with external consultants or as major players in development projects.

The main tasks are:
• To provide specialized advice and services on interior planning;
• To collaborate with the clientele and the multidisciplinary team to develop optimal solutions;
• To develop options, concepts and preliminary drawings and to make quality control reviews of external consultants' plans;
• To proceed with the furniture procurement process of the projects;
• To provide a high quality customer service;
• To keep abreast of industry trends.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one indeterminate position in Montreal (Bilingual imperative BBB/BBB) with our Architectural and Engineering Services (AES) team, a sector of the real property branch at the Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures (determinate, indeterminate), various linguistic requirements, various security requirements and for various locations at Public Services and Procurement Canada. Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments.

EDUCATION

Post-secondary diploma in a field related to design and architecture from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education*, training and(or) relevant experience.

* By acceptable combination, only the Attestations d'études collégiales (AEC) combined with traiting and(or) experience relevant to the duties of the position will be considered.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

1. Recent* and significant** experience of about 10 years or more as an interior designer on interior design project.

2. Recent* and significant** experience in delivering various interior design services (e.g. defining needs, technical and functional programs, expertise, drawing up mandate, cost estimation, signage, furniture specification, measurement, etc.)

3. Recent* and significant** experience in producing computerized drawings with AutoCad (2013 or later version) in the field of conception and construction.

4. Experience in quality auditing of deliverables in interior design in the field of construction.

* Recent experience: acquired experience within the last 12 years.

** Significant experience: will be evaluated on the basis of duration, scope, complexity and diversity of the work performed and level if responsibility for a wide variety of jobs and/or realized projects.

- LEED DI+C or C+CB certification
