Work environment

The Department of National Defence and Veterans Affairs Canada work in partnership to deliver Operational Stress Injury Social Support (OSISS). Our services complement other mental health and family support services available from both departments.

At OSISS, we provide a national peer support network for Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans and their families experiencing an operational stress injury (OSI).

The OSISS network is coordinated by screened, trained peers who bring firsthand experience and practical knowledge of what it is like to struggle with an OSI or to live with someone with an OSI.

The OSISS network includes 63 personnel in more than 33 locations across Canada. Members of the OSISS team provide leadership, firsthand experience and practical knowledge of what life is like with an OSI.

Intent of the process

This inventory will be used to staff various casual and term positions but may also be used to staff similar positions within the Department of National Defence with various tenures, language proficiencies and security profiles.

Education:
EDU1: Secondary school diploma or employer acceptable alternatives.

Candidates who do not meet the above may be accepted based on a combination of education, training, or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience
EX1: Experience in supervision.
EX2: Experience in delivering presentations.
EX3: Experience using MS Office applications such as MS Word.
EX4: Experience in dealing with issues associated with Operational Stress Injuries (OSI)* in the military context.
EX5: Experience in providing peer support to individuals who have been impacted by an Operational Stress Injury (OSI).

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Education:
EDU2: Two years of post-secondary education with acceptable specialization in social work or psychology.
EDU3: Suicide Intervention Training such as Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or Ask-Care-Escort (ACE).
EDU4: Peer Helper Training from Operational Stress Injury Social Support (OSISS).

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX6: Experience working within a recognized peer support volunteer organization.
EX7: Experience in Group facilitation.
EX8: Experience in mentoring.
EX9: Experience in community outreach.
EX10: Experience in networking.
