The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). This being said the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB has a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.
The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members, including the Chair. The organization operates in a decentralized manner in 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.
The intent of this process is to establish a pool of partially assessed candidates. Similar positions may be staffed through this process with various tenures, location, language profiles and/or requirements and security requirements.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position
EXPERIENCE:
Significant* and recent* experience in conducting engineering analyses including flight data analyses and writing engineering reports.
Significant* and recent* experience relating to aircraft performance and aircraft systems.
Experience in computer systems and applications related to flight data analysis.
*Significant is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities for at least 3 years.
*Recent is understood to mean in the last 7 years.

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board (CTAISB) Act.
Knowledge of aircraft operations.
Knowledge of flight recording systems.
ABILITIES:

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
An advanced degree at the Masters or Ph.D level in mechanical, aerospace or related field of engineering.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position
Possession of an aviation license (e.e. air traffic controller, flight service specialist, aircraft maintenance engineer, pilot license)
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in flight recorder data recovery and analysis techniques for accident investigation.
Experience in aircraft accident investigations.
Experience in aircraft certification.
Reliability Status security clearance
Meet the Occupational Health Assessment (Periodic III)
Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada
Agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions
Agree to respond under a call back provision and to travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory Holidays
Agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air
Able to lift components over 10kg in a lab or in the field without the use of lifting equipment
Willingness to undergo TSB required training
