As a Legal Advisor/Reviewer you will undertake legal research and provide legal advice and services on behalf of the CRCC in support of the review and investigation of complaints from the public about the conduct of RCMP members while performing duties under the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act or the Witness Protection Program Act.
The Commission is an agency of the federal government, distinct and independent from the RCMP. The Commission reviews and investigates complaints about the conduct of RCMP members. When reviewing a complaint, the Commission does not act as an advocate for either the complainant or the RCMP members. The Commission inquires into complaints independently and reaches conclusions after an objective examination of the information provided.
A fully assessed pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at the LP-1 group and level with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period and casual employment), various linguistic requirements (English essential and Bilingual Imperative CCC/CCC) and security levels.

Bachelor of Law Degree from a recognized university.
Eligibility for membership in the Bar in one of the provinces or territories of Canada.
Experience in conducting legal research and analysis of decisions of courts, administrative tribunals or administrative decision makers.
Experience preparing and providing legal opinions.*
* “Legal opinions” means legal analysis and advice provided orally and in writing in the form of correspondence, memoranda, reports or draft decisions.
Experience in dealing with or working at a law enforcement agency such as a police service or the Canada Border Services Agency.
Experience working in an independent review or oversight agency, a judicial or administrative tribunal, and/or for or as an administrative decision maker.
Experience providing legal analysis and advice in the area of administrative law.
Experience providing legal analysis and advice in the area of criminal law.
Experience providing legal analysis and advice in the area of border services law. (Border services law is a combination of customs, including trade, and immigration enforcement law.)
Experience providing legal analysis and advice with respect to the professional regulation of policing.
Experience interpreting and applying the Customs Act or regulations pursuant to the Act.
