QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q. I had already applied to a previous casual inventory. Do I still have to apply to this casual inventory?
A. Yes, since the previous casual inventories are no longer being used, we ask that you please apply to this new casual inventory. This new casual inventory has additional tools which will improve our applicant searches and hence improve your chances to find a new opportunity.

Q. As I complete the online application, I am being asked many questions regarding my experiences. Do I have to respond to them all? What will you do with my responses?
A. Yes, you need to respond to all of these questions with a simple yes or no response. Your responses will determine the type of opportunities you may be considered for.

Q. How do you conduct your searches from this inventory? Will you use random selection when conducting searches?
A. Searches are conducted based on your group/level and responses to the experience questions. The system does not do a word search of your résumé, but your résumé will be fully reviewed by the hiring manager to see if you are a right fit to be considered for the opportunity. As a means to manage high volume, we may use random selection. For example, we may ask the system to provide us with 50 random applications who meet our search criteria.

Q. Can I email you my résumé?
A. No, all job applications, which include your résumé, must be submitted using the public service jobs web site. No résumés will be accepted via email.

Q. Will an interview be conducted?
A. If your résumé is selected, an interview will be conducted. Since this is for casual opportunities and not for an appointment, the interview may be informal in nature and not based on specific merit criteria.

Q. Will you request references?
A. Yes, you should be ready to provide references from supervisors, clients/customers, colleagues or subordinates.

Q. I am currently in a pool of qualified candidates. Will I be considered for an appointment?
A. No, this inventory is only for casual opportunities.

Q. Will you post promotional opportunities?
A. Yes, we continue to post promotional opportunities throughout the year. We invite you to review the Government of Canada Jobs website on a regular basis.

Q. Where are your offices located?
A. All of our opportunities are located at 180 Kent Street and 427 Laurier Avenue in downtown Ottawa.

Q. Does my application expire?
A. 90 days after you submit your application, you will receive a notification of expiry e-mail. In order to confirm your continued interest in the inventory, please log into your GC Jobs account and resubmit your application. Only at that point may you also update your résumé with new information. If your application expires, do not fret - You can submit a new application at any point before the poster close date!
