What do we do?

The Carbon Markets is responsible for developing and implementing the Pan-Canadian Approach to Pricing Carbon Pollution, including the federal carbon pollution pricing system, and the Clean Fuel Standard, two key initiatives to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions under the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change.

In anticipation of vacant Policy Advisor positions, we are looking for talented and innovative leaders who are knowledgeable about the environment and climate change policy, and able to advance Canada’s interests in combating climate change and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Successful candidates could lead team units of other professionals to develop policy and programs, and collaborate with international bodies, industry leaders, provincial, territorial governments, Indigenous and non-governmental organizations to deliver on the Government of Canada’s priorities.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various language requirements and profiles, security requirements, locations and/or tenures within Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Education
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

N.B.: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX1 – Significant* and recent** experience in preparing and delivering briefings for senior*** management.
EX2 – Significant* and recent** experience in policy development on a broad range of complex, multi-dimensional and cross-sectoral issues.
EX3 – Significant* and recent** experience in engaging with government and non-government partners and stakeholders.

* Significant experience is defined as having performed a broad range of related activities considering the complexity, diversity, depth and scope of the work handled, as well as the level of responsibility and autonomy demonstrated that is normally acquired over a period of approx. three (3) years.

**Recent is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties during the last five (5) years.

*** Senior Management is defined as a senior executive.
