THE JULES LÉGER LIBRARY
Hosted in one of the Government of Canada’s most historical buildings, the Jules Léger Library is a state of the art, modern library that supports the knowledge and research needs of Global Affairs Canada as well as of the general public and foreign clients. The Jules Léger Library manages an extensive collection of books, documents, periodicals and also provides online access to digital content.
YOUR ROLE
Global Affairs is seeking a dynamic and engaged leader to deliver global services and run this historic library and services to the department. The incumbent will manage two service teams in the delivery of library operations; client services and technical services. This includes: planning, resource management, space management, research and reference, promotion and outreach, coaching, collection development, online resources and applications, acquisitions and cataloguing. This role also involves fostering collaboration and strategic partnerships with various stakeholders, including international
missions and embassies, other government departments and agencies, and the private sector.
A pool of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates could be established from this process. This pool could be shared with other public service organizations.

EDUCATION
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a master's degree in library science or in library and information science.

EXPERIENCES
Significant** experience in the management and delivery of client services in a library or Information Management (IM) environment.
Significant* experience in the development and implementation of strategic plans in a library or IM environment.
Significant* experience in the development and implementation of operational plans in a library or IM environment.
Experience in transforming library or IM services towards digital practices and technologies.
Experience providing strategic advice to senior management**.
Significant* experience leading collaborative projects involving multiple stakeholders such as vendors, external partners, and clients.
Significant* experience managing human, material, and financial resources***.
*Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired by a person in a position where the performance of these duties are/were the MAIN function over a period of at least two years.
**Senior management is defined as Director or Chief Librarian level or above, or private sector equivalent.
***Applicants must include in their response the number of staff they supervised and the size of the budget they were responsible for.
