Successful candidates will be required to translate, from English into French, a variety of documents on security, intelligence, public safety, policing, and national defence.
The positions to be filled are located in various parts of Ottawa. Locations will be discussed at the interview stage. Work must be done in the office; telework is not an option.
Candidates must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a top secret security clearance. This procedure may include a security interview, a polygraph test, and a background check, which includes a finance and credit check.
Founded in 1934, the Translation Bureau is a special operating agency of Public Services and Procurement Canada. It supports the Government of Canada in its efforts to communicate with and serve Canadians in both official languages. It also plays a leadership role in standardizing the vocabulary used in various spheres of federal government activity.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions, within the Translation Bureau, with various tenures and security requirements. (term and indeterminate)

Your résumé.
Education:
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in translation from English to French from a recognized postsecondary institution.
Experience:
At least two years of full-time experience as an autonomous English to French translator in an operational environment.
Experience translating texts in the fields of security or national defence.

The selection board cannot make assumptions about your education and experience. When answering the screening questions, it is not sufficient to say that you have the required qualifications or to list your current or past responsibilities. Rather, you must provide concrete examples with significant details to explain when, where and how you acquired each qualification. Candidates will not be solicited for incomplete or possible missing information.
A written practical exam and an interview will be administered and reference checks may be sought. Other assessment methods may be used as needed.
The selection board may, at any point during the selection process, use random selection or apply asset criteria to select candidates for the next phase of the assessment.

This process may be used for employment equity appointments.
