In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Diploma from a recognized university or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience in recommending changes to current policies, strategies, regulations or legislation.

Experience in developing and maintaining working relationships with federal government employees, external clients, stakeholders, partners or public interest advocacy groups.

Experience in writing, designing and revising legal documents such as affidavits, orders and other court documents (fishing licences, licence conditions, release notices, etc.).

Extensive experience* in providing managers and senior managers with advice and guidance on fishing regulations and/or enforcement.

* “Extensive experience” is defined as the depth, breadth, complexity, variety and level of autonomy normally associated with full-time performance of duties for roughly two years.

Completion of the Fishery Officer Career Progression Program (FOCPP).

Solid experience in enforcing fisheries and fish habitat legislation.

Experience in conducting major law enforcement investigations.

Experience in providing legal or regulatory training.

Willing to travel frequently for periods of up to two weeks.
Have a valid driver’s license.

Information on language requirements

Extensive knowledge** of the acts and regulations governing fisheries, fish habitat and oceans as well as legislation protecting fish and the marine environment.
Significant knowledge*** of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Criminal Code and various other related legislation (Youth Criminal Justice Act, Canada Evidence Act, Interpretation Act, Statutory Instruments Act, etc.).
Knowledge of the regulatory amendment process.
Significant knowledge*** of the criminal judicial process and legal investigation techniques.

** “Extensive knowledge” is defined as knowledge that was acquired and applied during a full-time period of roughly two years.
*** “Significant knowledge” is defined as the depth and scope of knowledge normally associated with the performance of a wide range of complex activities related to this task.

Ability to systematically analyse complex situations and make recommendations regarding regulations and enforcement.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to prepare, present and defend major files that directly affect the implementation of regulatory measures that govern fisheries and law enforcement actions.
Ability to develop legal documents based on the requirements set out in the legislation, regulations or departmental/governmental policies such as policies, summaries, reports, legal proceedings, judicial warrants and various other documents.
