What responsibilities will you take on?

As a Hearings Coordinator, you will report to the Director, Court Operations of the Tax Court of Canada, the key activities and responsibilities of the position are:
- Provide client service such as litigation support, appeal scheduling and compliance services for informal and general procedure appeals and applications before the Tax Court of Canada;
- Provide guidance and support on procedural and administrative requirements to the general public, professionals, lawyers and the Justices of the Tax Court of Canada;
- Manage the scheduling and adjournments of appeals and applications before the Tax Court of Canada;
- Develop responses to enquiries regarding general and specific appeal cases before the Tax Court of Canada.

The Courts Administration Service (CAS) provides services to the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada and the Tax Court of Canada.

Intent of the process

A pool of pre-qualified or fully qualified candidates may be created to staff similar or identical positions with various tenure, various bilingual imperative linguistic profiles and security requirements within the Courts Administration Service.

Candidates may be evaluated further, for specific opportunities, on qualifications that are deemed necessary, whether or not these qualifications have been listed on the job advertisement.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of two (2) years post-secondary* education OR an acceptable combination of education, training or experience related to the position**.

Definitions :
* Post-secondary education means years of education following high school graduation (grade 12 or Secondary V).

** Acceptable combination of education, training or experience related to the position is defined as a high school graduation (grade 12 or Secondary V) and two (2) years of work experience in a legal environment.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Significant* experience writing correspondence and summaries required in a legal environment.

Significant* experience in the application of legislation and rules of procedure in a legal environment.

Definition :
* Significant experience is defined as the breadth and depth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization relevant to the position (Law, Public or Business Administration or in any other field relevant to the work to be performed).

Degree equivalency

Experience in liaising with the judiciary *, lawyers and the public.

Experience working as a Hearing Coordinator or a similar position in a Federal Board, Commission, Tribunal or Court (Federal, Provincial or Municipal).

Experience working in the Tax Court of Canada Registry.

Experience working as an assistant in legal environment.

Experience working in a judicial or quasi-judicial environment**.

Definitions:
* Judiciary means judges, deputy judges or prothonotaries.

** Judicial or quasi-judicial environment means a Federal Board, Commission, Tribunal or Court (Federal, Provincial or Municipal).

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Work hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Require to work overtime, often on short notice.
