Public and travel health officers perform a variety of duties related to travel health. They engage with stakeholders to prepare response to notifications of ill travellers in compliance with the Quarantine Act. They train partners to the Quarantine Act, collaborate in responding to notifications regarding ill travelers at Canadian borders and in production of resources on travel health. They also perform other activities related to the prevention of diseases in travellers and general population.

At the Office of Border and Travel Health, you will have the opportunity to leverage the Public Health Agency of Canada’s resources and expertise as you collaborate with colleagues who have experience in the fields of public health, travel health, communicable diseases, epidemiology, and emergency preparedness.
Both in Montreal and Halifax, our offices boast a convenient downtown location near restaurants, cafés and shops and on bus routes to all parts of the city. The PHAC offices are located in the same building as Health Canada and Indigenous Services Canada, which helps facilitate a high degree of inter-departmental collaboration. At the PHAC Atlantic Regional Office and Quebec Regional Office you will be part of a work environment committed to continuous learning and excellent stakeholder relations.
To perform your daytime functions, you will need to be present in the office: telework arrangements are NOT available. You will travel to the airport frequently to engage with partners.
The job is challenging and always interesting, but can be stressful and demanding. The team supports a 24/7 bilingual service to the border partners year round. Consequently, you must be willing and able to work overtime, sometimes in emergency situations and to travel occasionally within Canada.

The immediate intent of this process is to staff 1 (one) bilingual indeterminate position in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
A pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) will be established to staff other positions in Montréal. This pool may also be used to staff similar positions at this group and level within the Public Health Agency of Canada with:

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
Occupational Certification:
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.
Experience:
Experience as a nurse
Experience in developing and maintaining external partnerships and collaborative relationships with stakeholders from a variety of sectors (community, health, private enterprise(s), academic, government, etc.).
Asset Education:
Graduation with a Masters degree from a recognized university in a field related to the duties of the position.
Asset Experience:
Work experience related to public health within a federal, provincial or territorial organization.
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)

Knowledge of public health principles and practices.
Knowledge of the mandate and priorities of the Public Health Agency of Canada in relation to travel health.
Knowledge of health acts and regulations relevant to quarantine services.
