Duties

CanmetMINING wishes to further study the development of an impact analysis system for vertical conveyors operating in a mineshaft. This device would be installed on the mining carriers and would include, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a wireless communication system and a real-time data analysis software. This system would enable continuous measurement of the accelerations felt in the equipment during its displacement, calculate abnormal impacts and associate these with specific positions in the mineshaft. The mineshaft of an underground mine is the vertical entrance to access a mineral deposit; any problem with the mineshaft can have a significant impact on the productivity of the ore extraction. The impact analysis system developed by CanmetMINING will provide continuous knowledge of the operating state of the mine shaft and can reduce the number of unexpected interruptions . This new system could quickly become a useful tool for mining, reduce the time associated with preventive inspections of the mineshaft and prevent mechanical failure of mineshaft equipment.
As part of this internship, the main tasks of the student will be:
- Participate in the design and manufacture of an experimental prototype integrating the analysis technique developed by CanmetMINING.
- Design and implement the program allowing the prototype to operate autonomously, according to the actual operating conditions of the vertical conveyors and to be able to transmit the analysis reports by wireless communication link after each analysis carried out by the program.
- Improve the analysis technique developed by CanmetMINING by considering different concepts of data analysis, innovative theoretical and experimental prediction approaches as well as new situations.
- Experiment and supervise the prototype on mine sites and improve the prototype according to the conclusions drawn from these experiments.
