Intent of the process

Education
ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in biology, physics, geology, chemistry, or some other science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
E1. Recent and significant* experience leading or working in a team tasked with the implementation or coordination of an environmental program or project.

E2. Recent and significant* experience in providing scientific and technical advice, presentations, or briefings to senior managers, colleagues, or work teams on environmental programs or projects.

E3. Recent and significant* experience in collaborating with officials from the federal government, provincial government, Indigenous groups, municipalities, or industry on environmental issues.

E4. Recent and significant* experience in critically reviewing scientific or technical reports (e.g. may include ecological / human health risk assessments, air, water, or soil / sediment quality reports).

* “Recent and significant” is defined as the depth and breadth of experience associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task over a period of approximately two years or more within the last five years.

Asset Education:
AED1. Graduation with a Master’s or Doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Asset Experience:
AEX1. Recent and significant experience* reviewing or conducting environmental assessments.

AEX2. Experience participating in environmental assessment hearings before tribunals, boards, regulatory bodies or panels.

AEX3. Experience participating in consultations, negotiations or facilitating discussions with Indigenous groups or organizations.

AEX4. Experience supervising subordinates.

K1. Knowledge of key environmental protection legislation administered by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
K2. Knowledge of principles and practices used in the conduct of environmental impact assessments such as the identification of mitigation measures.
K3. Knowledge of environmental issues related to industrial and commercial development activities.

A3. Ability to analyze complex information, identify issues of key relevance and provide recommendations.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Available to work occasional overtime, including weekends.
Able and willing to travel in a variety of conditions and modes of transportation, sometimes in remote locations, including north of 60.
Possess a full passenger-vehicle driver’s license (e.g. Class 5, Class G) or personal mobility to the degree normally associated with possession of a driver’s license.

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
