Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate English essential position in Ottawa (ON). As well, a pool may be created to staff other similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, acting, acting extensions, assignment, secondment), language requirements (English Essential or Bilingual imperative) and profile (BBB/BBB) and/or security requirements (reliability or secret) within Environment and Climate Change Canada in the Ontario region.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
ED1. Graduation with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in environmental/natural resources management or related discipline or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Note:
Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the EG classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX1. *Significant experience in planning and implementing field projects designed to monitor wildlife populations
EX2. *Significant experience in handling and/or capturing birds
EX3. **Recent experience in the use of software to enter, manage and summarize large/complex datasets
EX4. Experience using GIS software to create maps or perform spatial analyses
EX5. Experience preparing reports and/or presentations summarizing scientific information

*Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience that would normally have been gained performing the duties for a period of approximately two (2) years.
**Recent = at least one (1) year over the last three (3) years

Asset Experience:
AEX1. Experience conducting aerial surveys for migratory birds and/or other wildlife
AEX2. Experience conducting field surveys in remote or challenging situations
AEX3. Experience in the use of various types of vehicles and technical equipment in fieldwork (e.g. boats, canoes, small engines, ATVs, GPS, etc.)
AEX4. Experience dealing with public information requests on environmental or regulatory issues
AEX5. Experience banding migratory gamebirds
AEX6. Experience identifying, aging and sexing waterfowl

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid driver’s license.
A Health Canada approved medical prior to appointment and at specified intervals is required.
Willingness and ability to perform fieldwork.
Willingness and ability to travel; this could include travel to remote locations.
Willingness and ability to work and travel in boats and small aircraft.
Willingness and ability to work in adverse environmental conditions.
Willingness and ability to work overtime on occasion, including irregular hours and on weekends.
Willingness and ability to carry heavy loads (~20kg).
