STREAM 1: Intent to staff a position related to food fraud and coordination role.
STREAM 2: Intent to staff a position related to food fraud with an emphasis on bioinformatics.
The immediate intent of this process is to staff 2 (two) Indeterminate positions with English Essential profile.
A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various conditions of employment, various language requirements (English essential and Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB) as well as various tenures (Indeterminate and term) across Health Canada.

EDUCATION:
EEd1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in chemistry.
COMMON EXPERIENCE TO BOTH STREAMS:
EE1: Significant* experience researching, analysing and synthesizing scientific information and data related to food.
EE2: Experience developing, validating and applying analytical methods related to food.
EE3: Significant* and practical** experience operating analytical instruments for measuring the concentrations of organic compounds at trace level in various matrices.

*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience (i.e. scope/degree of experience (e.g. not limited to one product area), exposure to various activities or complex cases, etc.)
**Practical is defined as the experience acquired through work experience rather than theory or university courses.

Information on language requirements
STREAMED EXPERIENCE:
Stream 1: EE4: Experience in coordination of projects with representatives from the federal government, provincial or external groups.
Stream 2: EE5: Significant* and practical** experience using high-resolution mass spectrometry data (organic) and bioinformatics or statistical analyses.

**Practical is defined as the experience acquired through work experience rather than theory or university courses.
KNOWLEDGE:
EK1: Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques used in the analysis of food matrices.
EK2: Knowledge of fundamental analytical chemistry and organic chemistry.
EK3: Knowledge of principles of project management.
EK4: Knowledge of quality control procedures used to ensure reliable data, including within lab method validation techniques.
ABILITIES:
EA1: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
EA2: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
EA3: Ability to summarize data accurately while preparing documents for the reporting of scientific investigation results.

ASSET EDUCATION:
AEd1: Master’s or Doctorate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in organic or analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or other specialization related to the duties of the position.
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
AE1: Experience in detecting food fraud acts using chemical analytical techniques.
AE2: Experience manipulating data with Excel (large database, writing macro).
ASSET KNOWLEDGE:
AK1: Knowledge of analytical chemical techniques to identify food fraud.
AK2: Knowledge of various types of food fraud.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness and ability to do lab work.
