The key activities, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, include conducting assessments of offenders' risk to re-offend, in order to assist the case management team and Parole Board of Canada make decisions regarding release; conducting assessments of offenders' personality and mental health in order to identify mental health treatment needs; providing therapeutic interventions to individuals and/or groups of offenders; providing brief supportive counseling to offenders in crisis; acting as a consultant to Correctional Service Canada employees regarding offenders' mental health and case management issues; and conducting approved research with offenders in the domain of forensic or clinical psychology, and mental health.
The provision of mental health services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist to federal offenders in institutional or community settings.
This selection process will be used to create a inventory pool of candidates to fill current or future vacancies of various tenures in the Atlantic Region.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in clinical, forensic or counseling psychology with a requirement for academic residency (excluding programs taught primarily on-line or by other means of distance learning, unless American Psychological Association (APA) - and/or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) -approved).
Specific coursework at the graduate level in one or more of the following areas: abnormal behaviour/psychopathology, psychological assessment, and/or psychological interventions.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in the provision of psychological services (including mental health services), such as assessment, counseling or other psychological services with adults, either to groups or individuals.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of ethical principles guiding the professional practice of psychology.
Knowledge of principles and applications of psychological services (including mental health services), such as assessment, treatment, programs and crisis intervention.
ABILITIES
Ability to provide psychological services (including mental health services) under supervision, such as assessment, treatment, programs and crisis intervention.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

EDUCATION
Doctorate from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in clinical, forensic or counselling psychology.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in the provision of psychological services in forensic/correctional settings.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the Correctional Service of Canada, the Criminal Justice System and its legislative basis, and the relevant provincial legislation governing mental health and the practice of psychology.
Knowledge of contemporary Canadian Aboriginal issues.
