Transport Canada directly contributes to the safety and security of Canadians on a daily basis. Rail Safety is responsible for strengthening the regulatory framework and overseeing the administration of regulations to support the safe and secure conduct of all railway activities under the federal umbrella. As part of the Operations Management team of Rail Safety in Head Quarters-Ottawa, you will work with other Senior Advisors and Engineers involved in every aspect of rail transportation, including the equipment, infrastructure, and any new innovative technical fields on the horizon. As a Rail Safety team member, you will interface with key stakeholders including, Transportation Practitioners, members of the Transportation Association of Canada, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-way Association (AREMA), railway industry leaders like Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), Canadian National Railway (CN), VIA Rail and our engage with our American counterpart, The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
As a Rail Safety Senior Advisor Signals, you will play a direct role in advancing safety on the rail transportation system in Canada and will work first hand on standards and technical advisory material that creates the basis upon which rail safety is improved. As a Rail Safety Senior Advisor Signals, in the Ottawa office, you will play an important role in the development and dissemination of direction and expert advice to teams of inspectors in the five regions that deliver its mandate to improve safety of the rail network. Rail Safety has hands-on inspectors in BC, MB, SK, AB, QC, ON and the Atlantic provinces. In addition, the inspectors in the regions also perform inspection duties to keep a pulse on safety performance of the Canadian rail network.

EDUCATION
ED: A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in dealing with stakeholder representatives related to railway activities.
EX2: Experience in providing technical advice, such as but not limited to, giving advice on safety concerns.
EX3: Experience in preparing technical reports, such as but not limited to, providing summary findings from an inspection, test, investigation.
EX4: *Recent and significant experience in duties related to a signal maintainer with the rail sector.
*Recent and significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience associated with having performed a broad range of various, complex related activities normally acquired over a period of two (2) years; and the performance of those duties within the last ten (10) years.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
AED: Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience in auditing and/or quality control.
AEX2: Experience in the development of policies and programs.
AEX3: Experience in managing projects related to railway activities.
AEX4: Experience in risk management and risk assessment.
