Work environment

Working as part of a NRCan team, and with government departments and other stakeholders, the candidate will be responsible for supporting research to help resolve issues related to phytosanitary concerns on the import and export of forest commodities caused by insects.

Intent of the process

A pool of fully qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada ACROSS CANADA with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC), various security requirements (reliability or secret).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a biological science.*

*The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

Minimum 3 years’ experience providing morphological identifications of arthropods.
Experience conducting fieldwork.
Experience with the curation of insect specimens.

Knowledge of entomological sampling techniques.
Knowledge of insect biology in forest ecosystems.
Knowledge of guilds of insects in forests.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing in English.
Ability to communicate effectively orally in English.
Ability to analyze entomological information.
Ability to organize data for analysis.

Effective interpersonal relationships including developing external collaborative networks

Experience collecting and identifying non-indigenous arthropods that are a threat to Canadian forests.

Knowledge of pests associated with forest products.
