Duties

Duties may include the following activities:
• Litigation processing and Court Services for judiciary and litigants.
• Information and liaison services for judiciary, staff, lawyers, litigants and the general public.
• Procedural advice and assistance to the general public and internal and external clients litigants, lawyers, Federal Boards, Tribunal, interveners, witnesses) staff, media on the filing of legal and originating documents submitted to the Courts and prepared by the Courts.
• Compliance services, guidance, support and advice on procedural requirements to general public, clients lawyers, litigants and other registry staff.
• Coordinates activities within the court environment prior to the arrival of the judge or prothonotary; records minutes of hearings; and serves as Court Registrar/Court Technician at sittings of the Courts.

The Courts Administration Service (CAS) provides services to the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada and the Tax Court of Canada.

Intent of the process

A pool of pre-qualified or fully qualified candidates may be created to staff similar or identical positions with various tenure, various linguistic profiles and security requirements within the Courts Administration Service.

Candidates may be evaluated further, for specific opportunities, on qualifications that are deemed necessary, whether or not these qualifications have been listed on the job advertisement.

Successful completion of two (2) years of post-secondary* education or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position**.

Definitions :
* Post-secondary education means years of education following high school graduation (grade 12 or Secondary V).

** Acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position is defined as a high school graduation (grade 12 or Secondary V) and two(2) years of work experience in a judicial, quasi-judicial *** or legal environment.

*** Judicial or quasi-judicial environment means a Federal Board, Commission, Tribunal or Court (Federal, Provincial or Municipal).

Degree equivalency

Recent* experience providing front line service to internal or external clients.

Recent* experience providing procedural recommendations and/or advice to internal or external clients.

Definition:
* Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last five (5) years.

*** All positions staffed through this process will be bilingual imperative BBB/BBB or higher. Therefore, all candidates who are considering applying should be willing to undergo testing in their second official language (English or French). Experience working in a legal environment such as a Board, Commission, Tribunal, Court (Federal, Provincial or Municipal), law firm or equivalent.

Experience working as a Registry Officer or similar position in a Board, Commission, Tribunal or Court (Federal, Provincial or Municipal).

Experience working at Courts Administration Service (CAS).

Recent* experience applying acts, regulations or directives.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Depending on the position, additional Conditions of Employment may apply, such as:
- Willing and able to work from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Willing and able to work overtime, often on short notice*
- Willing and able to travel using various commercial modes of transport*.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
