Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Pacific Region seeks create a pool of candidates for future positions. Education
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics.
Note: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience
• Significant experience conducting economic and/or socio economic research, studies, forecasts and/or surveys in domestic or international settings
• Significant experience in developing, analyzing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative information and socio-economic policies and recommendations.
• Experience in the preparation of briefings (written and oral), written reports and/or correspondence on complex issues for senior decision makers

• Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired over a period of one year, in a professional work setting.
Education
• A Master’s degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in a field relevant to the position (e.g. Economics, Statistics)
Experience
• Significant experience in developing, analyzing, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative information and/or socio-economic policies and recommendations specific to fisheries, marine resources, natural resources, the environment or sustainable development.
• Experience consulting or negotiating with Indigenous groups or non-governmental stakeholders
• Experience conducting cost benefit analysis within a regulatory setting
• Experience in data management with an emphasis on database design, implementation and maintenance
• Experience in analyzing business cases, proposals and financial information (eg: Grants and Contributions funding applications, financial statements,)

• Knowledge of current economic issues impacting Canadian fisheries and oceans, especially issues that pertain to the Pacific Region
• Knowledge of macro- and micro-economic theories, principles, and methodologies

• Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information and formulate recommendations for senior decision makers
