Intent of the process

The immediate intent of the resulting pool will be to staff Senior Engineering Technician (EG-6) positions in Nanaimo and Terrace BC. The pool may also be used to staff similar future positions at various tenures within Fisheries and Oceans in the Pacific Region.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of an accredited Civil Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering post-secondary program or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

(E1) Experience in topographic or construction surveying using total station and processing survey data.

(E2) Experience in project planning, design and cost estimating.

(E3) Experience in supervision of excavation or construction projects in or around natural water bodies.

(E4) Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D (or comparable software packages) for civil construction projects.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Eligible to be registered with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia or the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia

Degree equivalency

(AE1) Experience with Real Time Kinetic Global Positioning System technology (RTK GPS).

(AE2) Experience using externally produced data sets such as lidar or photogrammetry data for project design or planning.

(AE3) Experience in forest road design or construction.

(AE4) Experience in water resource planning, design, or construction experience in rivers of British Columbia.

(AE5) Experience with Geographic Information Systems.

(AE6) Experience using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle technology and/or Pix4D photogrammetry software.

(AE7) Experience in fish habitat, fish habitat restoration, sediment and erosion control or fish hatchery operations.

• Must be willing and able to physically conduct difficult field work under adverse conditions.
• Must be willing and able to work variable hours outside regular normal working hours (weekends, statutory holidays) to meet field season objectives.
• Must be willing and able to travel in small crafts including boats, float planes and helicopters.
